About the ASCP

The Administrative Skills Certificate Program (ASCP) is an exciting online opportunity designed around the critical job-related knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for clerical, secretarial, and paraprofessional administrative employees to succeed in their careers.

The ASCP consists of 26.5 hours of instruction in the following topic categories: Assertiveness, Interpersonal Communications and Relationships, Leadership, Oral Communication, Electronic Communication, Problem Solving, Stress Management, Team Building, Time/Work Management, and Written Communication.

Participants will acquire or refresh a wide range of job-related knowledge, skills, and abilities which will improve job performance and enhance career mobility. The ASCP enables participants to complete online courses at their own pace during the six-month program.


Eligibility

CSEA-represented NYS employees in the Administrative Services Unit (ASU/02) are eligible to participate. Supervisory approval is not required for ASCP courses taken at home. It may be possible for employees to take courses at work with supervisory approval.


Time Frames

Eligible employees can apply between November 1, 2011 and December 16, 2011. Participating employees can take courses for up to six months, beginning December 1, 2011 and ending May 31, 2012. All courses must be completed by this time. The typical learner will need at least one hour of online study each week to complete the requirements for the ASCP certificate.

Core Courses

Participants are required to successfully complete 26.5 hours of instruction and must achieve a passing grade of 70% or higher in each course. All courses must be completed between December 1, 2011 and May 31, 2012. In addition to the required ASCP courses, participants are eligible to take additional online courses during the same time period. Print the list of courses for your reference.


Registration

To register for the ASCP, go to the Statewide Learning Management System (SLMS) login page and register for the Administrative Skills Certificate Program 2011. You must have an online learning license to take the ASCP courses. If you do not have an online learning license, log in to SLMS and register for the"Partnership's Online Learning Program-Home Use Only" or the "Partnership's Online Learning Program-Work and Home Use."


Certificates

Participants who successfully complete the 26.5 hours of instruction will be awarded an ASCP certificate by the Partnership.
