Skilled Trades

About the OSCP

The Operational Services Certificate Program (OSCP) provides a unique career development opportunity for CSEA-represented NYS employees to enhance their knowledge and improve their performance and skills as well as prepare for promotional opportunities.

The OSCP provides a familiarity with several trades including electrical, construction, and welding. It also offers courses on safety, math, and time management.

The OSCP consists of nine core courses and three elective courses. The elective courses enable employees to customize the program to meet specific individual career goals.

Benefits

Participants will acquire an increased understanding of the trades, develop a better understanding of the role of safety and time management in the workplace, and enhance their math and grammar skills.

Eligibility

CSEA-represented NYS employees in the Operational Services Unit (OSU/03) and Division of Military and Naval Affairs (DMNA/47) are eligible to participate. Supervisory approval is not required to participate in the OSCP if taken at home. It may be possible to take courses at work with supervisory approval.

Time Frames

Employees can apply between June 21, 2010 and July 18, 2010 or until seats are filled, whichever comes first. The OSCP will be offered from July 19, 2010 to December 31, 2010. Participating employees must complete all core and elective courses by December 31, 2010 in order to earn the OSCP certificate. The typical learner will need at least one hour each week of online study to complete the requirements and earn an OSCP certificate.

Core and Elective Courses

Participants are required to successfully complete nine core courses, three elective courses, and achieve a passing grade of 70% or higher in each course. In addition to the required OSCP courses, participants are eligible to take additional online courses during the same time period. Print the list of courses for your reference.

Certificates

Participants who successfully complete the required nine core courses and three elective courses will be awarded an OSCP certificate by the Partnership.
