About the Safety & Health Certificate Programs

The Online Safety & Health Certificate Programs (SHCP) are an exciting opportunity designed for NYS CSEA-represented employees to increase their safety awareness.

There are two different certificates that can be earned:

The Construction Certificate emphasizes safety issues such as fall protection, electrical safety, personal protective equipment, and ladder safety.

The General Industry Certificate emphasizes safety related to routine maintenance of equipment and the worksite.

The SHCP consists of five core courses and four elective courses. The elective courses enable employees to customize the program to meet specific individual goals.

Benefits

Participants will acquire an increased awareness of safety issues, gain greater knowledge in safety and health topics, and develop a better understanding of the role of safety in the workplace.

Eligibility

All NYS CSEA-represented employees are eligible to participate. Supervisory approval is not required to participate in the SHCP if taken at home. It may be possible to take courses at work with supervisory approval.

Time Frames

Employees can apply between December 1, 2009 and December 31, 2009 or until all seats are filled. Participating employees must complete all core and elective courses within six months in order to earn a Safety & Health Certificate. The typical learner will need at least one hour each week of online study to complete the requirements and earn a Safety & Health Certificate.

Core and Elective Courses

Participants are required to successfully complete five core courses and four elective courses. A passing grade of 70% or higher in each course is required. All courses must be completed between January 4, 2010 and July 2, 2010.

Certificates

Participants who successfully complete the required nine courses (five core courses and four elective courses) will be awarded a Safety & Health Certificate by the Partnership. Participants must inform the Partnership when they have completed all of the courses in order to receive a Safety & Health certificate.
