AVAILABILITY OF COURSES
Do both CSEA local presidents and
NYS management need to jointly agree to request an on-site delivery
of a Partnership safety and health training course?
Yes. All requests for on-site delivery of Partnership courses
require the joint approval of management representative (e.g.,
personnel director, training director, facility director, or equivalent)
and CSEA local presidents.
Will safety and health courses
be offered in the Skills for Success catalog?
The Partnership will no longer offer safety and health courses
through its Skills for Success catalogs. Due to the complexity
of safety and health regulations and the varied audience, courses
would be too generic and difficult to use back at the worksite.
Therefore, by obtaining these courses only through the Resources catalog, the Partnership can make sure the courses are tailored
specifically to the needs of the agency/facility worksite.
REQUESTS FOR NEW TRAINING TOPICS
What can an employee do if
a training topic of interest is not listed in either the Skills
for Success or Resources catalogs?
An employee should contact his/her management representative or
CSEA leader and request that he/she contact the Partnership regarding
new course topics. The Partnership is open to developing new course
topics that will help CSEA-represented NYS employees develop new
skills or upgrade existing ones.
How can an employee obtain first
aid/CPR training?
First aid/CPR training can be obtained for first-time training
and certification through the Partnership’s Quality of Work
Life Grants Program. Funding is not intended to provide ongoing
recertification courses.
STATEWIDE SAFETY & HEALTH COMMITTEE
What is the NYS & CSEA Statewide Safety & Health
Committee?
Article 15 of the negotiated Agreement between CSEA and the State
of New York calls for the establishment of a Statewide Safety and
Health committee consisting of six members selected by CSEA
and six members selected by the State. The purpose of the committee
is to review and discuss matters of mutual concern in the area
of safety and health in a proactive and cooperative fashion. For
more information on the committee’s activities, including
recent meeting minutes, click on the NYS & CSEA Statewide Safety & Health
Committee link on the Partnership’s safety and health web
page.

SAFETY & HEALTH INFORMATION ON THIS WEB SITE
Why is the safety and health section of
the Partnership’s web site a different color?
The Partnership selected green to display its safety and health
information since it is the color most commonly associated with
safety and health. For example, green is used by the National Safety
Council and the American Society of Safety Engineers for its
logos.
Why is the safety and health section of the Partnership web
site set-up differently?
Since safety and health is so important to all employees of the
New York State workforce, the Partnership wanted to create a clearinghouse
for the tremendous amount of safety information that is out there.
The web site is designed to provide information on issues that
are pertinent to the State and to give employees facts, guidelines,
and direction. [Return to Questions]
